The British regulator warns about 138 cryptocurrency businesses

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), as the UK’s financial market supervisor, has alerted the public about cryptoasset businesses that have failed to comply with a relatively new obligation.

From 10 January 2020, companies that operate certain types of cryptocurrency activities are required to comply with the amended Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Transfer of Funds (Information on the Payer) Regulations 2017 (MLRs).

In addition to complying with these rules, this also means mandatory registration with the FCA. However, the regulatory authority discovered dozens of cryptocurrency services that did not fulfill this obligation. There is a total of 138 entities, but the FCA noted that the list below is not exhaustive. And no wonder, because new cryptocurrency projects are created every day, so it is not possible to monitor them all.

Surprisingly, a number of legitimate projects and companies, such as Cardano or Coinmate, have been placed on the list, but mostly it contains suspicious and even clearly fraudulent sites that abuse the identity of legitimate entities, such as Ripple or Crypto.com.

Therefore, a place on this FCA list does not automatically mean that the entity is definitely bad. It just means that it has not complied with a certain requirement of the British financial regulation, which is not that important for other countries.

But if you don’t know the company and are considering its services, be sure to check it out, because at first glance it seems that most of the sites in this list are very suspicious. So take this list as a reason for double reflection and verification with whom you intend to establish any relationship.
